Brandon was able to climb up to Clingman's Dome which overlooks 7 states. I remember as we left Gatlinburg it was 88 degrees and as we drove higher into the mountains and we reached the Dome, it had dropped to 61...pretty crazy!
After driving for about 5 hours or so, we finally began to descend to the bottom of the parkway...THANK GOODNESS! It was a long day of curvy roads, popping ears and at times, dodging cars in the hidden curves. While in Gatlinburg we had spoken to a group of bikers from Yonkers, New York that drive the mountains every year and they told us of some cool spots to hit. One being Sliding Rock, which is a natural water slide and the other being the waterfall and springs.
Both were incredible! As we drove down the mountain, it was hard for Brandon to look and see the scenery I was seeing because of the roads and at one point, through the trees, I saw a magnificent sight. In my mind I was hoping there was a "pull off" so that Brandon could see. I didn't say anything but luckily, around a bend, there was a lookout. All I said was "Brandon, your gonna want to pull over"...I was so thankful he was able to see "Looking Glass Rock".
After a long day on the road we were exhausted and just wanted to find a hotel, eat and go to bed! I told Brandon that I thought, for sure, I would dream of winding roads but I slept like a rock and woke up so thankful for this awesome opportunity to travel and spend time with Brandon! I highly recommend this drive but do be aware that when it says 25 miles to your destination, it WILL take you at least an hour and a 1/2 but well worth it! BTW...I did find myself a little obsessed with the tunnels so there are quite a few pictures of them
On to Ashville for the night then off to Biltmore Estates and to visit Jimmy in Charlotte!!!!
